Sandy Hit's Twitter

During and after the effects of Hurricane Sandy Twitter began to blow up with an abundant amount of hash tags reaching 20 million. It's interesting to see how Twitter can inform large populations about national disasters due to how big of a phenomenon over the last few years. Twitter not only provides people with breaking news but it keeps the people that were effected in a more comfortable atmosphere with one another.

As the storm was going on I decided to log into twitter to see if people were going to donate to places like the Red Cross. In turns that mentions of the word "donate" were at a 180 day peak. This has been great for people outside the New Jersey area because it's keeping people like me more comfortable that my family is in peace since I am from New Jersey. Also Twiitter is another outlet for people to use to keep up to date on the damage done and the safety of the residents.

According to the article that I found on Mashable.com "On Monday, Oct. 29, when Sandy reached New York City, storm-related search queries comprised 20% of all searches on Twitter. At about the same time as a ConEd transformer exploded in Manhattan’s Lower East Side on Monday night, mobile Twitter usage peaked, more than doubling compared to the previous two days." This quote lets us know how far Sandy stretched after hitting New Jersey not only did memebers of Twitter want to know what parts were effected but when their power was turning back on. According to Twitter residents will not have power for another two weeks.

Twitter will continue to blow up with people being extremely angry since they are left with no power!
