Consumed By Technology

How is it that we are so preoccupied with our busy lives that we walk around, heads down, attention on our iPhones oblivious to this crazy town around us? There’s a man named Leo who walks around all hours sporting green shorts, no shirt, fanny pack and a long white beard.  A pirate ship that delays our travel plans at least twice a day and beautiful lights that have radiated bright enough to place us in National Geographic’s top 10 holiday lights. We have so many things going on in our lives that keep us from experiencing our world’s natural beauty. You need to stop, for at least a minute every day, take a deep breath and look around you because life is too unexpected to take anything for granted.
As humans have evolved, so has technology. It is part of our everyday lives and we no longer know how to live without it. We have become so consumed with the newest Apple gadgets that we no longer appreciate the simple and natural beauties in life.
The average consumer connects to the internet at least twice a day where they create, build, and maintain relationships. This has produced a groundswell making social media crucial for a business’s survival. Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn have become part of a business’s social media strategy. Many successful companies, like Nike have adapted to this trend and rely on it for their company’s future success.  Social media has created new opening in the job market as companies are hiring college graduates who specialize in the field. Now, not only are individuals, but companies are flooding the internet airwaves to check and tend to their social media sites and relationships.
We are all guilty of putting a wall of technology up between Mother Nature and ourselves and partaking in a life where the world defines you by nothing but one’s job and advertising turns materialistic goods into an obsession. We have become so consumed by our gadgets that we no longer rely on face-to-face communication.  Our relationships, stocks, bank accounts and businesses can all  be managed through the internet on a little handheld device. We walk around with this device every day, checking it any available minute we have.  It alerts us when we have mail, a meeting to attend or a Facebook comment to respond to, but one thing it will never be capable of, is creating the natural beauties that surround us.  Tomorrow is never promised, so make sure you make time in your life to simple enjoy.
