Terror in Social Media

With much of the population on the run all day not having time to look at a News Paper or watch the nightly News it is hard for the government to get the work out to those who don't follow it.

In an article from IP communications announced that the Department of Homeland Security is making a few changes. Along with changing the alerts to just 2 levels they are creating steps to insure that they can get vital information out to the public as fast as possible.

The Solution? Social media. By including things such as Facebook and Twitter Alerts they will be able to reach a Mass population fast.

If a situation were to occur where the Government felt it was the country was in need of immediate information then they will take to Social Networking for a solution. According to the article the Department of Homeland Security has previously been put under the spotlight for being too "vague".

These alers would also need to be approved under special circumstances, the first priority is always to alert the Law Enforcement.

This change will become official on April 27, 2011. So stay alert!

Where Are You Publix?

Publix is a company that has built a tradition of good customer service and customer relationships. However, when searching through their social media sources it is hard to say that Publix uses the same techniques to build more relationships by using sources such as Facebook or Twitter. Although the Publix Company does have a Twitter account, with 1,646 followers, they have only managed to upload two tweets since July 6, 2009. Their first tweet was announcing for people to follow their new twitter account “for big savings,” while the second one only a minute later said, “ Heading to the market? Why not go to Publix!”

If Publix were to create a Facebook page and keep of with their Twitter account, based on the fans and feedback from the fan created Publix pages, the company would get a lot of customer feedback. With this potential customer to corporate relationship, Publix would be able to obtain better quality feedback from its consumers as well as recruit new customers through groundswell. By using social media more effectively, Publix would also be able to measure customer conversations, customer traffic and customer relationships to help sales. They could possibly recruit double if not more of what their total trafficking and followers that are already participating.

Under Armour's Facebook Status

Much like the Vineyard Vines Company I posted about a few weeks ago, the Under Armour brand is a fairly new company founded in 1996. Under Armour was invented by founder and CEO, a former University of Maryland special teams captain, Kevin Plank. The main intentions of the clothing founder was to design a t-shirt that would evaporate sweat off the body and dry quicker than cotton. Plank was tired of getting weighed down by the drenched cotton t-shirts he would wear under his shoulder pads and was desperate to design something new.

Today the company has grown to be a leading manufacturer of sports performance apparel, accessories and footwear. Much like most sports performance companies, their primary target audience consist of a younger demographic. This makes social media very necessary in order to for a company such as Under Armour to engage customers within their target and recruit new consumers through building relationships.

Under Armour currently manages a successful Facebook page that is loaded with company content and filled with intriguing graphics of well-known athletes using the brand. When visiting their site, it is very noticeable that they use Facebook as a primary source much like other companies to address new information and establish new relationships.
